Creating songs is the only way I have ever been able to make sense of life, and have been doing so since about age 8 or 9… somewhere between 500 and a thousand of them, the number keeps climbing. I perform regularly with my band, “Real Stormin Norman” in New York City, and have for about 12 years now. This remarkable group is a jazz rock confection starring the fiery vocalist Genevieve Faivre & stellar musicians.
But my story is more complex & hooks back in time. In the late 70’s and 80’s I bushwhacked up and down the east coast (as far as LA and Spain) with a California chanteuse named Suzy Williams in “Stormin Norman & Suzy,” a wild little vaudeville rock thing that became famous for a time.
Some of the many songs of that group find their way into “Real Stormin Norman,” which shares a bit of its musical vocabulary. Suzy Williams and I have regular “50 Year Anniversaries” every summer in NYC, LA, and places elsewhere. In addition, I record and perform with a new grasstrio, “Bride of Science.”
For more info about my checkered history:
years working as a NYC music teacher and principal to support family and raise virtuous children, work in hassidic ensembles, porno music, 57th St singalong bars, small musicals in small theaters, hundreds of songs lyrics, stories (and most fun new compositions, participate real time in recording projects …and collaborate with me).
In this angry clangorous, dangerous time music is hope, needed more than ever. Thanks for supporting me and other gifted & deserving artists on your wavelength. Like Tinker Bell, your energy keeps our little lights ablaze.
